Salary: £70,000
Recruitment Partner: We Are Dcoded

The opportunity

We Are Dcoded is partnering with a stealth-stage SaaS business in the InsurTech space to hire a Full Stack Software Engineer.

Our client is building a new technology platform from the ground up and is looking for an engineer who combines strong software engineering fundamentals with experience across a modern TypeScript and .NET stack.

This isn't a role where you need to match every technology on the job description.

The hiring team is deliberately prioritising engineering ability over framework knowledge. They'd rather hire an excellent engineer with some gaps in the specific stack than someone who can tick every technology box but lacks the underlying engineering fundamentals.

What you'll be working on

You'll join the engineering team at an early stage, working across web, mobile, backend services and data.

The platform involves significant volumes of transactional data and processing, so we're particularly interested in engineers who have had some exposure to building and delivering software at scale.

You'll be involved in:

  • Building production software across frontend, mobile and backend services

  • Designing clean, maintainable and well-tested systems

  • Working with significant transactional data volumes and processing

  • Contributing to technical design and architecture decisions

  • Designing and consuming APIs

  • Working extensively with relational databases and SQL

  • Reviewing code and contributing to engineering standards

  • Using AI development tools intelligently while maintaining ownership and understanding of the code produced

What we're looking for

The most important thing is strong software engineering fundamentals.

We're looking for someone who understands the principles behind good software rather than simply knowing how to use a particular framework.

You'll ideally be comfortable with:

  • SOLID, DRY, Law of Demeter and similar engineering principles

  • Object-oriented design and development

  • Common software design patterns and their appropriate use

  • Clean code and maintainability

  • Software architecture and architectural trade-offs

  • Testing strategies, including the test pyramid

  • Building systems that process significant volumes of transactional data

  • Code review, debugging and production engineering practices

We're also looking for someone who knows how to use AI-assisted development effectively.

The client actively embraces AI tooling, but they're looking for engineers who use it to augment their engineering skills rather than replace them. You should be able to review, understand, challenge and test the code you produce with AI.

The technology

At a high level, the stack boils down to JavaScript/TypeScript, C#/.NET and SQL.

Web

The web stack includes:

  • TypeScript

  • React

  • Vite

  • Turborepo

  • pnpm

  • Radix UI

  • shadcn/ui

  • Tailwind CSS

  • Zustand

  • TanStack Router

  • TanStack Query

Mobile

The mobile stack includes:

  • TypeScript

  • React Native

  • Expo

  • Expo Router

  • Turborepo

  • pnpm

  • Zustand

  • TanStack Query

Backend

The backend is predominantly Microsoft:

  • C#

  • .NET 10

  • ASP.NET Core

  • Web API

  • SQL

Strong SQL capability is important, and being able to demonstrate experience with query optimisation and performance tuning would be a bonus.

Do you need experience with all of this?

No.

This is important because the technology list is intentionally broad.

For a mid-level hire, the client isn't expecting someone to have deep commercial experience with every technology listed.

Someone with excellent engineering fundamentals and partial exposure to the stack will be preferred over someone with extensive framework knowledge but weaker fundamentals.

You could come from a C#/.NET background with some TypeScript experience, or be stronger in TypeScript/React with less commercial .NET exposure.

The key things are your ability to reason about software, write good code, understand engineering trade-offs and learn quickly.

Why consider it?

This is an opportunity to join a stealth-stage InsurTech SaaS business at a point where the engineering foundations are still being established.

Rather than joining an established product and simply maintaining what's already there, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to how the platform is designed and built from an early stage.

For engineers who enjoy product development, modern technology and having meaningful influence over engineering decisions, it's a particularly interesting time to join.
