Senior Platform Engineer Location: Manchester (Hybrid) Type: Permanent Salary: 70-95k DOE
The Role
We're looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join a Manchester-based SaaS business operating at the heart of the UK financial services market. You'll be a key driver in the evolution of a multi-cloud estate, occupying the vital space between infrastructure and software delivery, taking ownership of projects that enable engineering teams to deploy securely and at pace.
This role requires a high degree of autonomy. You'll act as the bridge between ground-level execution and strategic architectural vision, ensuring AWS and Azure systems remain performant, cost-effective, and above all, developer-friendly.
What You'll Be Doing
• Managing and evolving multi-cloud environments using Terraform to create highly available, repeatable infrastructure patterns
• Leading improvements to Buildkite and GitHub pipelines to increase deployment frequency and eliminate developer friction
• Hardening the platform by embedding automated security scanning and compliance-as-code into the heart of the delivery process
• Building self-service tools and documentation that empower engineering squads to own their services end to end
• Spearheading cost optimisation and observability initiatives to keep cloud spend efficient as the business scales
• Contributing to standardised engineering patterns and golden paths, and providing technical guidance to mid-level engineers
• Acting as a bridge to strategic vision, ensuring ground-level technical execution aligns with long-term architectural goals
What We're Looking For
• Extensive experience managing production workloads in AWS
• High proficiency with Terraform, with a proven ability to build modular, reusable infrastructure at scale
• Deep understanding of Buildkite and GitHub Actions, with a relentless focus on workflow efficiency
• Practical experience implementing security best practices, identity, encryption, and secrets management, within regulated environments
• A track record of taking projects from vague requirements to production-ready solutions with minimal supervision
• Someone who views infrastructure as a product and is passionate about automation, security, and reducing friction for fellow developers
• Strong communication skills and a genuine enjoyment of knowledge sharing, code reviews, and helping the wider team level up
Why Join?
You'll be joining a SaaS business whose platform processes billions of pounds in financial transactions annually and underpins hundreds of thousands of customer accounts across the UK. The technical challenges are real, the autonomy is genuine, and the work you deliver will have direct impact on a platform that matters. If you want to move beyond maintenance and help design the next generation of resilient, high-scale architecture, this is the role.
